Although born in Kentucky, Mark calls Texas home. He has served as Pastor to churches in Texas and Arkansas. He and his wife, Sherry, have two children. Kristen is married to Dr. Osvaldo Padilla and is a free-lance writer for the WMU. They have one son, Philip. Kimberly is married to Alex Beasley and is a stay-at-home mom with their son, Nathan and twin girls, Emma and Caroline.

Mark has pastored First Baptist Church since March of 2009. He graduated from Howard Payne University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Currently, he is pursuing his Doctor of Ministry through Logsdon Seminary. “The focus verse of my life is Isaiah 41:10. Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God. I will help you; I will strengthen you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Alan came to serve as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in January of 2015. Alan is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has over 30 years of ministry experience having served churches in Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia. Alan married Lynda in August of 1980 and they have two grown children, Meagan and Kylie (also two dogs - CJ, the three legged lab, and Cooper, a miniature dachshund; 3 granddogs - Oliver, Parker - both miniature dachshunds and Nala, a mixed breed.) Alan and Lynda enjoy traveling, camping and hiking. 

  Alan's passion is preparing and leading meaningful experiences of worship for the body of Christ. He also enjoys participating in and leading music mission trips.


jonathan raffini

Jonathan serves as the Youth Pastor, which includes students in Grades 7-12. A native of South Carolina, Jonathan has served at First Baptist since January of 2011. His passions in ministry are seeing students growing closer to God and missions. Jonathan has been married to Rebekah since 2007 and they have 2 daughters, Elizabeth, 9 and Anna 6. JOhn long

John serves as Minister of Discipleship, which means he seeks to lead the church to be intentional and strategic in living out the Great Commission command of making reproducing disciples. He began serving at First Baptist in 2016 after serving as a Minister of Education in churches in Florida and Texas for 28 years. Most recently he and his wife, Lucy, served as Team Strategy Leaders and church planters with the International Mission Board in Belgium for 8.5 years. John and Lucy married in 1974 and have one daughter, Megan, who also lives in Big Spring. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Florida, a Master of Religious Education Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Educational Ministries Degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. A life verse and guiding principle for John is, 2 Timothy 2:2, “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

Tracy leads the Mother's Day Out ministry, a 2 days a week preschool, here at First Baptist. She is married to Lewis and they have two children, a son and a daughter.

Mike serves as the Minister of Adults and Administration. He was born in Lakeland Florida on September 14, 1944. Mike worked for General Telephone Company of Florida for thirteen years until God called him into full time Christian service in January, 1976. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX in December, 1977 with a diploma in Religious Education. Mike served at First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, FL from 1978-1980 and moved to First Baptist Church in Big Spring in February of 1981. His hobbies include woodworking, carpentry, golf, and grandchildren.

tiana hergert

Tiana is married to Lonny and they have two children Brittney and Bryce. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree with an emphasis in Accounting from Lubbock Christian University. The Hergerts moved to Big Spring from Lubbock in May of 2005. They joined the First Baptist Church family in 2009. One of her favorite verses is Ephesians 4:32, "And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."

Lynda serves in the area of Music and Youth Ministry. Lynda brings a wealth of experience in church ministry and is excited to be a part of First Baptist Big Spring.

Donald serves in the area of Custodian and Maintainence and does a fabulous job helping keep the facility up and running smoothly. 


courtney samsel

Courtney is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), as well as a Board Certified Christian Counselor (BCCC). She attained her Masters of Arts Degree in Counseling from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX, in 2012. She counsels individuals (age 5 and up), couples, and families. Courtney is married to Bryce, and they have three young boys. She enjoys singing, crafts, movies, and spending time with her family. Her passion is to serve others with grace and love in whatever form God may use her. A focus verse for her life is, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ephesians 3:19
